Baby Blanket for Arianna

I am finally done with a baby blanket for my beautiful (future) god daughter – Arianna.  There will be a lot of projects named after her, if you cannot tell yet.

I came to help new parents to settle in with their bundle of joy when Arianna was just born.  When I asked Alena (Arianna’s mom) what she would like me to make for them first, she replied that she would really like a beautiful baby blanket.  I always travel with some amount of yarn in my car, but this time I was especially prepared.  I had two different types of yarn in mind with four colors of one, and seven colors of the other one.  I am glad that I let Alena pick the yarn and the colors for the blanket, because I would have probably went with different combination.  I started this blanket a day after we brought Arianna home from the hospital.  I had half of the blanket done when I was still there and figured it would not take long for me to finish.

Oh, how wrong I was.

It started when I ran out of pink yarn and was getting short of white, good with green because I had an extra skein.  Not a big deal, right?  Carons Simply Soft is available everywhere. Wrong!  WRONG!  I don’t know what’s up with that, but we are experiencing a SHORTAGE of Caron Simply Soft.  It took 10 days of searching and trips to two different Michael’s and AC Moore to find pink yarn, and JoAnns to find white yarn.  I believe it is beyond ridiculous.   If you know why this is happening, please let me know.

The blanket was finally finished last Sunday, and I got a chance to take pictures yesterday in natural light.

Baby Arianna is one month already!  So how long did it take me to finish her blanket 😉 ?  That’s a rhetorical question.

All in all I am very pleased with the way it turned out, especially love the ruffles.  I hope both Alena and Arianna will like it.

this is adorable! ONLY a month, heh? I live in a different time scale, I have very little time to crochet and I don’t even attempt bigger projects like blankets at this time.

Ruffles are adorable, but little babies tend to get their little fingers caught in the holes… tell mama Alena to be careful if she uses it, and fold the ruffles away from the baby’s face.

I am a very quick crocheter, but I prefer smaller projects – instant gratification ;). Alena really wanted a blanket, so I kind of had to!

I will past the info about ruffles of to her, she is very safety cautious with her little girl :).

I thought I am a fast crocheter too, until I timed myself and looked up videos on youtube about “the world’s fastest crocheter”
Now I think I am average, LOL.

Hmm, would have to look it up. Now I am curious!
