Changes in Crochet Classes Structure/ What technique would you like to learn?

After thinking about it for quit some time, and received an OK from some of you, I have decided to make some changes in our classes.  In every one and a half hour class I would like to introduce half an hour session of learning something new.  I picked some topics I thing you would be interested in learning.  Please share your ideas on what you want to learn :).   The lerning session this week – Wed, Sep 9, is going to be GAUGA

TJ Maxx going crochet

A friend of mine went to a TJ Maxx store the other day, saw this beautiful bag, and knowing how much I love crocheting sent me this pic.

This bag is made in a technique called free form crochet. Some people compare free form crocheting with painting, where instead of brushes and paint, hooks and yarn are used. Finished projects can be abstract or realistic. So this bag would be an example of realistic free form. I will write about abstract projects in a later post, when I actually make something using it ;).

Most of the time free form projects are original designs, done without a pattern. Remember the “flower class” we had few months back? That could be the continuation of it. There is nothing more to it than making different flowers in a similar color pallet, connecting them together, crocheting bottom and the top, handles, and lining the bag. I am looking forward to this challenge. Too bad the summer is almost over… no more flowers. How do you feel about snowflakes for this type of bag?

Photo shoot with my hats

Looky here!!!! My wonderful photographer had another photo shoot with my hats. I absolutely love it!!!  There are pumpkin, raspberry, elf hat, strawberry, shell edge hat, bumble bee, building block hat and lady bug.  Most of the patterns are actually available in pattern section. Julie and Julia

By this time most of you already have seen or at least heard about the movie Julie and Julia. Long story short: the movie is based on the book, which is based on the blog, which is based on the true story (whew) of Julie Powell who decided to make every recipe in Julia Child’s Mastering the Art of French Cooking. So last Sunday we went to see the movie. Why am I taking about the movie I saw on a crochet blog??? Because it was very inspirational. Mostly I was impressed by the Julia Child’s story, especially about the book publishing. After many rejections, one publishing company agreed to publish her, I believe the publisher said that there is nothing like that on the market. It got me thinking that books with my ideas are not on the market either. One book at the time, I should do it. I really want to do this! Someone will publish them, someone will like it, and ideas are new and original. You are probably wondering what in the world I am talking about… but I cannot really open my card yet 🙂 you understand.
What also inspired me in the movie is Julia’s contagious optimism.  Really, it is amazing.
Oh, yeah, since Monday I have been looking for Julia Child’s cook book. They are SOLD OUT! So my search continues.

Wednesday Crochet Class

The class was great!! As always ;).
We could not get our usual big table at art section, so we put two tables together at Starbucks. It was a good size space for 6 of us,.. kind of tight, but comfortable.

For the first time ever, I taught my youngest student. Layla is 7 years old and very talented. By the end of the class she was half done with her DS cozy. I started it for her and only showed her how to do single crochet in consecutive  rounds. She said that it felt comfortable for her and that she is getting the hang of it! 😉 That’s what we, adults, luck, the confidence, the I-can-do-it attitude. Should we learn it from her?
